Joshua Eckersley, 33, of Bayville, already faces one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said he surrendered to police Thursday afternoon.
Both incidents occurred on Sunday, Jan. 12, according to the prosecutor's office.
A girl who was at Central Regional High School in Bayville for an athletic practice entered the girls' locker room to use the bathroom. She said she saw Eckersley walk past her naked after he had apparently touched himself near the lockers, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The two did not exchange any words and the girl went into a bathroom stall to wait until she heard Eckersley leave the locker room, the court complaint says. The girl left the bathroom and then told her coaches what had happened, the affidavit says.
Surveillance video from the high school apparently showed Eckersley attempting to enter the boy’s locker room, but he did not. Eckersley then entered the girl’s locker room, but left the view of the camera, the criminal complaint said.
The video shows him in a hallway fully dressed about three or four minutes later, the complaint says.
Details about the first incident of lewd behavior on school grounds was reported here by Daily Voice.
Eckersley is a math teacher at Central Middle School. A statement that was posted on the district’s website said it is cooperating with authorities and was “very troubled” by the incidents.
“The safety and security of our students is our upmost priority," Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides wrote in the letter. "In that respect, Mr. Eckersley has not and will not be on the school grounds or in any of our buildings until this matter is concluded."
